2017年10月12日，牛津大学法学院官网宣布，任命Ruth Chang（张美露）为Professor of Jurisprudence（法理学教授，国内也有翻译为法理学首席教授）
Ruth Chang教授将于2019年1月正式加盟牛津大学法律系，同时将成为牛津大学大学学院的院士。
牛津大学的法理学教授这一教席起源于1869年，具有享誉全球的声誉，张美露教授的前任包括梅因、哈特、德沃金等。在张美露教授被任命之前，这个岗位已经空缺了三年。

Ruth Chang教授现为位于美国新泽西州的罗格斯大学新伯朗士威校区（Rutgers University, New Brunswick）的哲学教授。她曾是加州大学洛杉矶分校和芝加哥大学法学院的客座教授，同时也是哈佛大学、普林斯顿大学、斯坦福大学和美国国家人文中心的研究人员。其研究工作曾被美国、加拿大、英国、澳大利亚、意大利、以色列、德国、巴西、新西兰和奥地利等各国媒体广泛报道。Ruth Chang教授的个人网址为：

Ruth Chang教授1985年毕业于美国八大常春藤学校之一的达特茅斯学院，取得哲学学士学位（A.B., summa cum laude, Philosophy，其G.P.A为3.9/4.0）。1988年，她从哈佛大学毕业，取得法律博士学位（J.D., cum laude）。小编求证华人法学家，证实张美露教授为华裔。
随后，Ruth Chang教授先后在牛津大学的莫德林学院（1990年）和伍斯特学院（1990年—1991年）担任哲学讲师。1991年，她获任牛津大学巴利奥尔学院的初级研究员。在为期共计两年的UCLA哲学系（1993年—1994年）和芝加哥大学法学院（1995年—1996年）的客座助理教授经历后，她于1997年在牛津大学巴利奥尔学院取得博士学位，博士论文题目是《不可比性与实践理性》（Incomparability and Practical Reason），指导教师为牛津大学万灵学院的Derek Parfit教授。
博士毕业当年，Ruth Chang在罗格斯大学法学院法学院担任助理教授。1998年，她转到位于新伯朗士威校区的罗格斯大学哲学系担任助理教授。
围绕伦理学、实践理性与价值论，Ruth Chang教授的研究兴趣主要涉及价值的本质、价值冲突、决策过程、合理性、规范伦理学、道德心理学、元伦理学等方面。用Ruth Chang教授自己的话来说，其哲学兴趣非常广泛（“My philosophical interests are very broad”），她几乎对哲学的所有领域感兴趣（“ I am interested in pretty much all areas of philosophy”）。
