说到文字游戏，吃货君先给大家推荐一本童话书——Alice In Wonderland（《爱丽丝漫游仙境》）。既然是童话，有趣才能吸引孩子。文字游戏就是作者卡罗尔常用的手法之一，英语为paronomasia，利用一词多义（polysemy）或者谐音（homophone）来制造笑点。

例如，在第三章A Caucus-race中，爱丽丝的泪水泛滥成洪水，很多动物浑身上下都湿淋淋的，为了晾干（dry），老鼠提议讲the driest thing he knows，结果却讲起了干巴巴的英国历史：

At last the Mouse…called out, “Sit down, all of you, and listen to me! I’ll soon make you dry enough!”…“Ahem!” said the Mouse with an important air, “are you all ready? This is the driest thing I know…”

同样在第三章，大家晾干后，又开始求老鼠讲故事。老鼠说：“我的故事（tale）说来又长又伤心！”结果因为tale和tail发音相同，爱丽丝听成了尾巴。

“Mine is a long and a sad tale!” said the Mouse, turning to Alice, and sighing.

“It is a long tail, certainly,” said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse’s tail, “but why do you call it sad?”

在第六章Pig and Pepper中，爱丽丝炫耀自己的地理知识，说起了地轴（axis），结果公爵夫人听成了斧头（axes），从而引出了红心王后的名言off with his/her head：

“You see the earth takes twenty-four hours to turn round on its axis—”

“Talking of axes,” said the Duchess, “chop off her head !”类似这样的文字游戏，翻成中文时，译者只能在括号里标注两个词在英文是同音。可要是遇到下面这些例子，又该如何翻才能产生双关的效果呢？

-What ship doesn’t sink?

-Friendship.

这个可以算个特例，“友谊的小船说翻就翻”莫名其妙地火了一把，给了译者方便。吃货君甚至在朋友圈见到了这样一个段子：

——友谊在英文里咋说？

——翻的ship。

可下面这些又该怎么翻呢？

My left brain has nothing right; my right brain has nothing left.

- What's the flower between your nose and your chin?

- Tulips.

当然，文字游戏不只英文里有，我们博大精深的中文也不缺呢，比如说下面两例。

夏天，能穿多少穿多少；冬天，能穿多少穿多少。

小明送给领导两个红包，小明：“意思意思。”领导：“你这就不够意思了。”小明：“小意思，小意思。”领导：“你这人真有意思。”小明：“其实也没有别的意思。”领导：“那我就不好意思了。”小明：“是我不好意思。”

估计歪果仁也会被绕哭吧~
