Simon & Garfunkel（西蒙和加芬克尔）是一支美国男声双重唱组合，跻身于60年代最受欢迎的歌手之列。

1965年，凭借着一曲《The Sound of Silence》迅速走红。而2年后，为经典电影《毕业生》配唱插曲进一步成就了他们的辉煌。
1970年，他们因音乐上的意见不合而分道扬镳，但此后也曾多次同台表演。

他们的音乐以充满诗意的歌词与优美的和声著称于世，代表作如《寂静之声》、《斯卡布罗集市》等历经几十年依旧美妙如昔，为人乐道。 2003年，获得了格莱美终身成就奖。



《The sound of silence》是在美国60年代肯尼迪总统遇刺、反种族歧视意志高涨的动荡社会条件下，由美国著名民谣歌手保罗西蒙创作出来的一首针砭时弊的歌曲，最初发行在1964年却并不受大众青睐。

但似乎冥冥中上帝不想让这才华横溢的歌手被埋没，1967年西蒙与加丰科重新编曲的《the sound of silence》作为美国电影《graduate》的主题曲出现时方大受欢迎。

这首歌本身就是一首无比精妙的诗，分为五段，段与段之间环环相扣，一气呵成。

歌词中描写的是一个主述者来与黑暗对话，自己被幻影所困扰，走在潮湿黑暗的鹅卵石路上沉思、看见许多的人在向霓虹做成的上帝膜拜，他们的语言空洞，对他人的声音充耳不闻，主述者心急如焚，大声呼喊希望叫醒那些人们，但他的声音却被这物欲横流的社会淹没。



在现今科技发达网路畅行无阻的年代，西蒙的《the sound of silence》格外具有其划时代的意义，西蒙的歌声似乎在告诉我们：

茫茫人海里，人群跟著人群，我们无时无刻不感到孤寂。停下来让我们好好沟通吧，否则人类的关系将日形恶化，沦为廿世纪科技的牺牲品。
