英国著名诗人、散文家、小说家鲁德亚德•吉卜林（Rudyard Kipling，1865-1936）出生于印度孟买，吉卜林的成就很高，他的作品简洁凝炼，充满异国情调，吉卜林的作品在20世纪初世界文坛产生了很大的影响，由于吉卜林的“观察的能力、新颖的想象、雄浑的思想和杰出的叙事才能”，他于1907年获得诺贝尔文学奖，成为英国第一位获此奖的作家，也是至今诺贝尔文学奖最年轻的获得者。
