底特律当地时间4月11日,小鹏汽车总裁夏珩应邀参加中美汽车行业“绿色创新与先进制造”国际论坛并致辞,以下为原文:

Good afternoon everyone, I am so glad to share with you about some information of a brand-new automobile company, Xiaopeng Motors.

Detroit was well-known as the biggest center of automobile industry. Last night I have arrived at Detroit for the first time, but in fact I knew the name of Detroit much earlier. When I was in University, I read an American novel named . It is interesting that in the beginning of the first chapter there are conflicts and disputes whether electric vehicles should be developed or not. And the disputes remained all along this novel written in 1970s. More than 40 years past, the answer is much clearer for every automobile company, that electrification is really the tendency for automobile industry's future.

However, ironically uptill now, electric vehicles are still far from the main stream of automobile industry. Why conventional companies always gave one and another excuse from 1970s that EVs are difficult to build and disappointed us again and again? When new technologies emerge, how can we defeat the old technologies which are mature and reliable?

Let’s have a review of the smart phone history. We know that IBM invented touch-screen phone in 1994 and Nokia developed touch-screen phone in 1997, but they never shake the old cell-phone's status. Until Apple developed iPhone1 in 2007, the mobile industry was totally different. Why? IBM and Nokia only took touch-screen as a technology without putting new soul to the phone.  But Apple made a lot of revolutionary efforts not only on touch-screen technology, but also on the interface, the design, the application environment and so on. So when we develop Electric vehicle, we should not only focus on the electrification of powertrain, and then simply duplicate the rest of conventional vehicles. We should treat it as a new kind of product, which is totally different from conventional ones. We should re-define it by internet thinking! We should give it new design, new interfacing experience, cool technology, and different business models. It is a new generation product. It should be built in a new way! That is why we left the conventional automobile company, and built Xiaopeng Motors. Just like Apple named iPhone smart-phone instead of touch-screen phone, we call our product internet car, not electric car.

This morning when I got up, I found that our hotel is near Ford's headquarter. After more than 100 years history, most of us have already lost the courage to startup a new automobile company, like Ford, Honda, Benz, and other great founders of automobile industry.  Now the new history should be written by us due to the great opportunity brought by internet revolution. We hope to co-found a new automobile company of internet DNA together with more ambitious people, like you!



各位来宾下午好,感谢有机会能与大家分享一家崭新的汽车公司——小鹏汽车的一些信息。

底特律以全球最大的汽车中心闻名。昨晚是我第一次来到底特律,但事实上我久闻其名。在大学时,我读过一本很有趣的美国小说《汽车之城》。在文章一开始就对是否应该制造电动汽车有冲突和争议。这些争议居然是 20 世纪 70 年代的这本小说所写的。现在40 多年过去了,对所有汽车公司而言,答案越来越清晰——电动化是汽车行业未来的趋势。但讽刺的是直到现在,电动汽车仍没有成为汽车工业的主流。

从 20 世纪 70 年代开始电动汽车的研发就举步维艰,且让我们一次又一次的失望,为什么传统公司们总是对此有各种各样的托辞? 当一项新技术出现时,我们怎样才能战胜曾经成熟的老技术?

先让我们回顾一下智能手机的历史。我们知道 IBM 1994年就研发了触屏手机,1997 年诺基亚也研发了触屏手机,但是他们永远不会撼动旧手机的地位。为什么直到 2007 年苹果研发出iPhone1,才颠覆了手机行业?IBM和诺基亚只想到做触屏技术,他们并没有把新的灵魂注入手机。但苹果却做了大量革命性工作,不仅针对触屏技术,还包括界面、 设计、 应用程序环境等。所以当我们研发电动汽车,我们不应该只关注动力总成的电动化,其他部分就只是保留复制传统汽车。我们应该用互联网思维重新定义它。我们要为它做新的设计、交互、酷炫科技及不一样的商业模式。它是一款全新的产品,应该建立新的赛道!这就是我们离开传统的汽车公司并成立小鹏汽车的原因。就像苹果将其产品称为智能手机而非触屏手机,我们也将我们的产品定义为互联网汽车而非电动汽车。

今早起床的时候发现,我们住的酒店就在福特总部附近。经过100多年的历史,我们大多数人已经没有勇气像福特、本田、奔驰等汽车工业创始人一样,去创立一家新的汽车公司了。但互联网革命已经到来,新的历史必将由我们书写。我们希望与更多像你一样有互联网基因、有抱负的人来共创汽车伟业!
