外国小朋友有哪些可爱的想法？

Hey, everyone! Today, we’re going to look at a popular post from Reddit called “What misconceptions did you hold as a child? 这就是美国流行BBS Reddit的一个帖子，叫“你小时候有哪些误解？我们来看看老外小朋友都有什么样想法！

加拿大是不是有两种货币？



My parents always said, “we don’t havethat kind of money.” I grew up thinking Canada had twocurrencies, the kind that we had and the better kind that let you buy big TVs.

我父母老跟我说，“We don’t have that kind of money。”所以从小到大我都以为加拿大有两种货币，我们家用的普通货币和用来买大电视的货币。

We don’t have that kind of money 直译的话，意思是我们没有那种钱。很多人讨论买东西的时候都会这么说。你知道是什么意思吗？那种钱说的就是多。我们没有很多钱，买不起这个东西。

小孩儿或许经常跟父母说“I want a PS4!”“I want to go to Europe!”

但如果经济条件比较拮据的话，父母可能就会说“We just don’t have that kind of money。”意思就是“这个东西我们买不起。”

有鬃毛的狮子就是母的吗？



I thought that lions withmanes were female, because,you know, long hair...

“我以为有鬃毛的狮子是母的，因为有长毛嘛。。。”

这个中文词其实是我近几天才学到的。Mane就是马、狮子等动物的鬃毛。

但这句话有另一个该学的词组，就是you know。美国人经常用这个短语，基本上可以理解为“嘛”或者“就是。”美国人说you know就是一种filler word，一个赘词，讲话的人在想或者是希望对方大概了解了他的意思。这么说话听着比较随意，可能也比较亲切。不过如果你说得太多，就会听起来挺笨的。这是很多金发碧眼加州美女的一个语言习惯，叫Valley girl（谷妞）。So, like, you know, it’s like when there are a lot of people there like, you know…. 但这种词不仅限于这样的女孩儿，连美国总统奥巴马经常用这个短语。

喝了汽水就不能开车吧？



[I thought] thatdrinking and driving meant drinking anything. My big brother was very confused when I started crying after he got a large orange soda from the 7/11.

我以为drinking and driving（酒后驾驶）指的是喝任何东西后都不能开车。所以我哥在7／11买了一大瓶苏打水准备开车时，我就大哭起来。我哥特别纳闷。

Drinking and driving 即酒后驾驶。你可以说“Did you hear John got caught drinking and driving?”或者“I don’t drink and drive。英文的这个词中没提到酒精，可怜的小朋友以为喝了汽水就不能开车了，担心他哥哥被警察带走了。

电影里死了是不是真死了？



Watching movies, especially regardingexecutions,decapitations, I thought that actors were chosen among persons that didn’t want to live anymore and “donated” their last moments to film thescene.

“看电影时特别是处死、斩首等镜头，我以为导演会选那些不想活了的演员。他们就是把人生的最后时刻“捐”来拍这一场景的。”

这里边有几个词可以去学习。Execution和decapitation都比较暴力：处死和斩首。

但是比较重要的是donate和scene。Donate就是捐的意思，捐款、捐献器官。Did you know Jack Ma (马云) is going to donate all his money after he’s 80?

最后一个词就是scene，指电影、戏剧里的某一场景。

Did you see that scene where he was decapitated?

I really like the scene where they’re running through the city.
