翻译思路：otherwise的翻译

Otherwise是一个比较麻烦的词。它有三种词性，连词、副词、和形容词。

当连词用，其含义最清晰，表“转折或者假设关系”，意思是“如果不这样就”（参考：彭乔，《浅谈otherwise的焦点标记》，《四川教育学院学报》2012年2月）。也最好翻译，意思是“否则、不然”。例如：We’rehere for business reason, otherwise we wouldn’t be here.我们来这里是办公事，否则就不会来。

Otherwise当副词，尤其是当形容词用，翻译起来略微麻烦一点。大致可以用中文这些词来表达：不同的（地），在其他方面（以其他方式）；原本。例如：

Heis noisy, but otherwise a nice boy.他有点闹腾，在其他方面却是个乖孩子。

Hesays…, but I know otherwise.他说…,但我知道的并非如此。

Tellhim I’m otherwise engaged.告诉他我在忙别的事情。

Thetruth is quite otherwise.实情大有出入。
