各位同志,春天就这样彻底地过去了,黄妮可同学送给本校的春蚕已经吃厌倦了,开始结茧:



这些蚕就是我们中华文化象征之一的丝绸的原料生产者,很勤奋的!我们汉语里说的“蚕食”和“鲸吞”就是在说这种一直不停的摄入能力。大家在学习知识方面有没有“蚕食”的气势呀?



现在,黄妮可同学送给学校这批春蚕已经成为同学们的新宠,比如,Jane就很喜欢观察春蚕吐丝,校猫“何大门”就失宠在了一边。

Monthly Progress Report: April 2016

Mary Wang

Mary is a gregarious and bright student in all of her courses at Clockwork. Mary is always excited to participate in class, and willingly answers questions and adds to group discussions. This past month, Mary attended the following group classes: French with Alfred, Science with Jonathan B., Public Speaking and Debate with Jonathan W., and Reading and Vocabulary with Amanda.

玛丽聪慧过人,与老师同窗教学相长。阳春三月师从Alfred,Jonathan B,Jonathan W以及Amanda分别研习法语、科学、演讲/辩论及阅读/词汇。

In French class with Alfred, Mary continues to impress us every week with her progress. She is excellent at French pronunciation in her reading, and oftentimes speaks at a native level. Mary often is able to correctly pronounce new words, without having to hear them first. This is a testament to her natural ability at learning languages, particularly as French is quite difficult.

法语课堂,玛丽发音精准、表达地道,竟能自主准确朗读生词,习外邦语言天赋昭然。

This past April, the class has focused on learning more and more new vocabulary, and complex sounds. The new sounds are much more difficult to pronounce correctly, and as such it is essential that Mary review her notes outside of the lesson in order to retain information.

乃至本月新词递增,玛丽掌握亦不费吹灰之力,且重视复习,课堂之外舍得功夫,得先生赞赏。

Sometimes, Mary seems resistant to doing extra work, but it is important that she work to branch out of her comfort zone. This month the students are moving on to a more difficult text that is focused on dialogue and comprehension. This text is quite serious, as it is geared toward preparing students in France for the EFL French International Exam. As such the subject matter is challenging, but not too difficult for Mary to master if she focuses.

然学海作舟,沿途时有风浪,逾越玛丽身为学童天性,尤以铺垫未来学术应试部分之内容更显枯燥,玛丽仍竭力专注,难能可贵。

In order for Mary to continue to perform well in class it is important that she spend some time reviewing outside of her lesson. Alfred is working with the girls to implement games, flashcards, and short quizzes to strengthen their overall comprehension. However, without extra home practice it is impossible for them to move on to new material. Going forward, Alfred will continue to push Mary to put forth extra effort both inside and outside of class.

法国先生Alfred教学形式丰富多样,游戏、卡片、测验相得益彰。先生望学生父母亦能辅助以家长支持,敦促复习。

In Group Science class with Jonathan B, Mary is always very energetic and enthusiastic. Mary takes pleasure in both answering and asking questions. Mary can work on asking questions that are relevant to the lesson, so as not to disturb the other students in the class – sometimes, eager to talk, she asks questions that are not relevant to the course, which can bother the other students.

至科学课堂,玛丽求知热忱有加,问答活跃。

Jonathan has been helping Mary participate in a way that is constructive for her learning and conducive to the learning environment. Mary does well with comprehension of the material, but blocks her own growth when she veers off topic.In May, Jonathan will work on addressing when it is appropriate to speak, as Mary is prone to interrupting her classmates.

Jonathan is coaching Mary so that she can improve her patience and listening skills. Mary is also already making progress in this area, as in the last lesson she did raise her hand when she wanted to participate. This is a great sign that points towards Mary’s rapid growth. Mary is not afraid to be wrong, and is confident when answering questions. This is an excellent quality to have, and her inquisitive nature greatly assists her learning process. Mary would help herself even further by paying attention in class, and not getting too excited about asking questions that are off topic. In future lessons, Jonathan will coach Mary on distinguishing between helpful and irrelevant questions.

玛丽才思敏捷,课堂亦调整其学术探究之节奏及耐心,先生察其积极思考、勇于发言,学术进阶效率已得明证。

In Vocabulary and Reading with Amanda, Mary is a very bright and outgoing student. She often volunteers to read and answer questions. Mary is able to decipher the meaning of a word using the context of the passage, and does well with using her own knowledge to make educated guesses on questions that she is unsure of.

女先生Amanda词汇及阅读课堂,玛丽借上下文即轻松推测生词意思,鲜有失手。

Mary is very inquisitive, and eager to learn more.  Mary excels at finding the main idea, and making her own conclusions. Mary is focused in class, and helpful to her classmates. Mary can work on coming to class prepared, with her homework completed. This will allow the class to move on to new words each lesson. Mary does very well at using new words in original sentences. Mary also asks a lot of questions, which greatly enhances her comprehension of new vocabulary. Going forward, Amanda will help Mary to retain her new vocabulary and apply it to her everyday conversations.

至大段落须分析之阅读,玛丽亦善于归纳总结要义,学习态度亦专心致志且乐于助人。玛丽作业工整且乐于应用新知识举一反三。In Public Speaking with Jonathan W, Mary is very outgoing and exhuberant. Mary is very engaged in the lessons, and enjoys challenging Jonathan on a variety of topics. While her tendency to speak out of turn would be disruptive in other subjects, in the Public Speaking class it is generally of a great benefit to Mary. Mary is involved, active and eager to answer.

公开演讲及辩论课堂,玛丽声情并茂,畅享挑战。

Between her and Vivian, their hands are always flying into the air on a constant basis saying, “Teacher!… Teacher!”. Her enthusiasm for participation helps her master new techniques, and stay focused during the lesson. In terms of structure, Mary has made huge improvements in the past month.

玛丽演讲逻辑及结构本月极大提升。

Mary makes sure to qualify her points which enhances her speeches. Despite not attending the last semester, and missing some of the basic points, Mary is actually doing very well in class. Jonathan is coaching Mary to improve upon her pitch and tone. She tends to shout a bit, and she also tends to use the word “and” far too often. Jonathan is helping Mary to utilize transition words such as, furthermore, in addition to etc. This month the class will review transition words, and focus on structuring their arguments.

先生亦订正玛丽表达细节,精益求精。

Throughout May, Mary will be assisted by her instructors to develop habits that will benefit her in her studies. Mary will be challenged to improve on areas such as, staying on topic, and discussing only relevant ideas in group discussions. In French class Alfred will work with Mary to help her move out of her comfort zone, and practice memorization on her own time. Jonathan B. will assist Mary on staying on topic, and focusing in Science class, and Jonathan W. will help Mary structure her speeches in a sequential format. Going forward, Mary will work with her teachers to expand out of her comfort zone, and continue to improve and grow as a student.
