假装成你眼中的我/曾广智“当东方遇见西方”摄影作品

 

因为一次机缘巧合,一场误会,你好像变得不再是你自己,随后你便习惯了这个新身份。...

因为一次机缘巧合,一场误会,你好像变得不再是你自己,随后你便习惯了这个新身份。遥远的1979年的某一天,曾广智变成另一个人,在他的余生中继续扮演着这个角色,直到1990年英年早逝,那时他年仅四十岁。

故事的背景是一家曼哈顿餐馆,就是那种有点老式的餐馆,仍旧沿用西装和领带的穿衣准则。曾广智穿着人民装,阴差阳错被人误认作中国政府派遣的大使,应该受到只有贵宾才能享受的最高级别的待遇。

这个平平常常的误会,值得用最好的法国速写画来表现,日后激发了他动身前往全美国和世界各地拍摄一组黑白影像的灵感。

这一系列照片题为当东方遇见西方,照片里的曾广智扮成一位来自中国政府身份不明的访客,探索、利用和嘲弄西方人对亚洲世界的刻板印象。他站在美国史诗中提及的具有象征意义的地方,拍下自己穿着中山装,戴着太阳镜,一副军人表情的照片。

此一场景试图降低标志性建筑不朽巨人的威望,比如帝国大厦、世贸双塔、加州好莱坞山、总统山、旧金山金门大桥。纪念碑失去了素有的庄严,正是因为其神圣性本身就是世俗的。

曾广智的摄影过程结合了超现实主义和流行元素。他不仅在这组影像和记忆中凝固的熟悉的纪念碑前强行加入一个疏离的人物,甚至通过在每个建筑符号的自然影像前叠加一个反复出现,完全雷同,而且亘古不变的做作的人物肖像,创造出一种独特的透视效果。

其艺术效果就是丝毫没有创造力,弥漫着颓废的气息,催生了典型波普艺术的无限重复的过程。

按照对这个过渡性人物的标定,在这些标志性景观面前曾广智本身就成为一种符号:典范式的形象,拥有自己的神圣性。

曾广智探索的道路还包括他艺术的政治层面。这就足以将其作品视为追溯到里根时代的首组图片,从而进入了与冷战相悖的主题。曾广智尝试运用加入一个荒谬的艺术大使的手法,探寻和讲述一个个体和文化艰难互动的故事,借此抵制西方世界对东方文化的普遍无知。
