Nuclear Bubbles

报告摘要:

The shell structure of bubble nuclei was investigated in simple phenomenological shell models using Strutinsky’s method. The bunching is produced by the energy gaps between single-particle states with a different number radial nodes. Shell energies down to -40 MeV are shown to occur for certain magic nuclei. Our estimates demonstrate that the calculated shell effects for certain magic numbers of constituents are probably large enough to produce stability against fission, alpha, and beta decay. No bubble solutions are found for mass number A < 450. Self-consistent calculations made with the Gogny force confirms this picture but in addition predict possible existence semi-bubbles in nuclei with Z>120. Even if bubble nuclei can never be made in a terrestrial laboratory, they might play a role in neutron stars.
