Today we'll be talking about blended words in English that combine two existing words: 今天我们要说说英语里把两个词混在一起，组成一个新的混成词

For example:

Bromance: brother + romance 基友、基情

Murse: man + purse 男人的小夹包

These words are called portmanteaus: 这些词叫混合词

Portmanteau sounds like 破馒头: Portmanteau听起来很像破馒头

Portmanteau is originally a French word. It means a suitcase with two compartments: portmanteau是一个法语词，原意指有两个夹层的皮箱

There are a lot of fun and useful portmanteaus in English. They'll help you sound very native and plugged in: 英语里有很多有趣的、实用的混成词；使用它们会让你的英语听起来很地道、对美国文化很了解

Hangry: hungry + angry 肚子一饿、脾气就很臭

Hangry is a pretty new word. It's been around for 2 or 3 years: hangry是个挺新的词，大概就是这两三年发明的

To coin a word: 发明一个词

Most of these terms have been newly coined, but some older portmanteaus have been in the English language for a long time, such as neither and brunch: 很多混成词是这两年才涌现的，但是也有一些历史悠久的混成词，比如：

Neither: not + either

Brunch: breakfast + lunch

Mansplain: man + explain 直男癌说教

It means to talk down to woman, in a very condescending way: 意思就是用很不懈、很轻蔑的口吻跟女人解释、说话

A man who mansplains is a mansplainer: 一个这样说教的男人是个mansplainer
Something they might say is, "You're a woman, you wouldn't understand": 他们典型的台词就是“你们女人不懂”

Vlogging = video + blogging 视频博客

Blogging = web + logging

Video clip, clip: 短视频

Vlogging became a really popular term when YouTube started becoming a more commonly used platform for people to post videos: Youtube推动了vlogging红人

Vlogger: 视频创作者

Cronut: croissant + donut 羊角甜甜圈

Cronuts became famous in New York a few years ago, and lines to get them were very long: cronut诞生在纽约，前几年特别红，要排几小时队才买得到

Tofurkey: tofu + turkey 素火鸡

During Thanksgiving, being a vegetarian can get quite lonely, so tofurkey was born: 感恩节，素食主义者没东西吃，所以素火鸡诞生了

Turducken: turkey + duck + chicken 火鸡＋鸭＋鸡

It's a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey: 就是把一只鸡塞在一只鸭里面，再塞到一只火鸡里

It's pretty advanced cooking: 这真是功夫菜

Romcom: romantic + comedy 浪漫喜剧

Dramedy: drama + comedy 剧情喜剧

Mockumentary: mock + documentary 伪纪录片类型，比如美剧Veep(副总统)这类型的

Edutainment: education + entertainment 寓教于乐

Jeggings: jean + leggings 贴身紧身牛仔裤

Jeggings look like jeans but feel like leggings and always contain a lot of stretch: jegging看起来像牛仔裤，但材质更像紧身裤，很有弹性

Murse: man+purse 男人用的小皮包

Chillax: chill + relax 放松休闲

Chill means to take it easy, to calm down:  chill的意思是放轻松

If someone is very tense and stressed or angry, you can say "chill": 如果一个人很紧张、压力大、生气，你可以跟他说“chill”

You can use chillax to describe your weekend plans, e.g. I'm gonna chillax this weekend: 你能用chillax来谈论自己的周末安排，比如" I'm gonna chillax this weekend"

Frenemy: friend+enemy 既是朋友又是敌人

Smog: smoke + fog  雾霾

Pleather: plastic + leather 人造革

In North America, people who are concerned about the environment and animal rights will wear pleather, and apparel made from this material is often quite expensive: 在北美，很多环保人士会买pleather, 人造革制品，这些通常都很贵，可能比真皮还贵

Fantabulous: fantastic + fabulous 魔性美丽
