My mother bought me one book called ‘The Present’ by Spencer Johnson when I was a kid, but what I only remember clearly from that book all these years is this simple little opening poem :

                                                                                 --Spencer Johnson在我小时候我妈妈给我买了一本名叫《礼物》的书，是斯宾塞·约翰森写的，但这些年来唯一能让我记得很清楚的就是书里的一首开篇小诗：

（注：在英语中，gift和present都可以用来表示“礼物”的意思。）After I have graduated from college and started my career as an English teacher being a freshman in life, I start to realize that one thing I need to do is cherish what you have now and how to seize every minute of my life.

毕业以后我开始做起了英语老师这份工作，但作为在人生这个大学里的新生我开始意识到我们需要珍惜自己目前所拥有的东西，以及如何做到珍惜每分每秒。

So here are some advice for a good life:

于是我总结了以下的一些做法：

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

生病了，我就卧床休息。因为我知道，一天不工作，地球照样转动。

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

我会点燃雕成玫瑰状的红蜡烛，不至于让它在闲置中消融。

I would have talked less and listened more.

我要少说话，多聆听。I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was strained, or the sofa faded.

我要请朋友来家中做客，即使地毯弄脏了，或沙发褪色了，也不在乎。

I would have eaten the popcorn in the “good” living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

我要在装潢“考究”的客厅里吃爆米花，就算有人在壁炉里生火带起了炉灰，我也不会操那么多闲心。

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

我要从容悠闲地听爷爷讲他年轻时候的故事。

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

我决不会因为在夏天头发刚疏离好，还喷过发胶，就坚持要把车窗玻璃摇起来。



I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.

我要和孩子们一起坐在草地上，丝毫不顾忌草渍。

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television — and more while watching life.

我要在看电视时少哭点，少笑些 —— 在看人生时，多哭些，多笑点。

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime. Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy , I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

我不会在买东西时只注重实用性、耐脏或耐磨。我不会在期盼中度过9个月妊娠期，我要珍惜每一刻，要清楚地认识到，体内孕育着的神奇是我今生唯一一次协助上帝创造奇迹的机会。

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ‘Later. Now go get washed up for dinner. ’ There would have been more ‘I love you …’ more ‘I’m sorry…’.

在孩子们猛烈地亲吻我时，我决不会说“等等，去洗洗手，准备吃饭”。 我要说很多遍 “我爱你们……”， 说很多遍 “对不起……”。But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every moment…look at it and really see it …live it… and never give it back.

总的来说，假如我能再活一次，我要把握好每一刻……留心生活，并真正地关注生活……品味生活……决不让岁月悄然流逝。

Stop sweating the small stuff. Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, who’s doing what. Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us. Let’s think about what God has blessed us with, and what we are doing each day to promote ourselves mentally, physically, emotionally, as well as spiritually.

我不会为小事烦恼，不会担心谁讨厌我，谁比我富有或谁此刻正在做什么。让我们珍惜与真正关爱人与人之间的那份情感吧！ 多想想上帝给我们的恩赐，也多思考一下，每天我们都做了哪些有益于自己身心、情感和精神的事吧！

Life is too short to let it pass you by. We only have one shot at this and then it’s gone. I hope you all have a blessed day.
