　　招生官并没有想从以下几个文章主题中寻找某个具体的东西。以我的经验来看，通用文书和普林斯顿要求的文章并没有很大区别 – 就是两篇不同的文章。我说不好招生办为什么会对这两篇文章列出一些问题，但我觉得他们认为这些文章让学生有机会通过大范围的话题来写作。在要求中提到，只需把这些主题作为出发点，也就是说招生办并不在意文章主题的内容是什么。文章字数要求在250到650之间。我认为500到650字为宜。申请者要思考怎样让自己从成千上万既有高分又可能曾经当过报纸主编的其他学生中脱颖而出，文章就是达到这个目的的途径之一。严格来说，所有文章的书写、语法、用词都应该完美无缺，没有错误，没有误用的分号（普林斯顿的院长可是英语专业）。没有非正式的语言（如果你认为文章本身需要，那请你认真严肃地再次思考是否真的有必要）。文章读上去应该更像报纸上的评论而不是一篇文学作品。最后，死亡和爱都是非常难写好的主题。在选择这两个主题前，请再三认真考虑。

1描写一位对你影响深刻的人

正如所有的文章主题，招生官对文章内容并没有统一的要求。除非你有一个很好的故事，否则尽量不要描写亲人。每年都有成千上万写关于母亲、父亲、爷爷的文章，他们虽然令人敬仰，但这些文书都很难出彩。另外，一定要写你真的认识的人，而不是你崇敬的名人。我不是说你一定不能写希拉里克林顿，只是这类的文章很也难出彩。同样，描写反面人物的文章也很难出彩。还有，请注意：这个人必须是真实人物，而非虚构。虽然文书题目是对你影响深刻的人，这篇文书还是应该更加侧重于你自己。多下功夫讲你所获的重要影响，不要写你妈，也别写奥巴马。

这是描写“困难”的好机会，但同时也必须详细地叙述如何克服困难。同时要注意所描写的是“真正的实际上的困难”，例如，与国家贫穷相比，分手、朋友打架、祖父母自然死亡等等，就不能算是“真正的实际上的困难”。白人学生对于种族这个话题要特别小心，而且，只有在以下情况中才能使用带有种族歧视性的用语：一名有色种族的学生在文章中描述TA被某个种族性的用语所歧视，并且，那个词语需要打引号。

回答这个问题，学生应该直截了当地描述一个有意义的课外活动，并解释为什么喜爱它。不管这个活动是什么，如果从名字不能直接理解其内容，学生就应该描述活动的具体信息。我看过一些文书描写ABC俱乐部，文中并没有清晰解释这个俱乐部是什么，即使读完之后还是不清楚。学生们还应该记住，与你同台竞争的会有一万个主编和三千多个辩论队长。所以，一定要尽力突出自己，即使有那么一点点与众不同。

对于以上的小问题，需要记住，你没有解释的空间，并且还有三万多名学生和你一样回答相同的问题。请尽量突出自己的特点。但是，也请注意如果你的答案很含糊，招生官从没听过，那这个回答就基本是无效回答，因为招生官不会进一步去查找解释。例如，你非常喜爱一部仅在60年代上映过的波兰文艺片，因为你参加了一场特别的展映而看过这部片子，而且它的名字是“G”，那么，你的回答“G”对于招生官来说没有任何意义，也不会有助于你的申请。这些回答会用来筛除一些学生。不要给出任何有攻击性的回答，即使是模棱两可也不行。记住，你没有解释的机会。
