:你为什么走上艺术的道路呢?

:我小时候是学武术的,父母管教不住。由于上美术课胆子大,画面比较有“冲击力”,加之和小学美术老师何云女士是“街坊”,碰到面多有嘉奖,父母便送去校办的课外美术兴趣班,但求安宁。没想到一画起画来就不出去“惹事”了,真能给定住了,迷上了。我就天天放学回家翻《芥子园》、《XX 画技法》之类的,不是窝家里画画就是去拜访名师,可以说走上这道是歪打正着吧。

: 噢,这样的…… 关于你的装置《光的乌托邦》和架上的《转山》水墨系列有关系吗?我想问,你为什么要做这个装置呢?

:计老师,我从小就不是个循规蹈矩的人,我的作品始终追求一种“中国气质”,它可以是平面二维的,我也想借这次个展机会,做一个三维装置,延展水墨表现的可能性。可以说装置《光的乌托邦》是《转山》水墨系列的拓展,我加入光的元素,运用了多种不同纸的纤维,透过光营造出水墨流觞的南宗披麻皴的效果。这是南宗文人山水画的精神“传统”的当代性诠释,“传统”不应只是一个一成不变的“名词”,而应是一个动词,生命力源源不断。加之用黑幕延展出古典长卷图式,在视觉中糅合出一种新的对于远离尘嚣,怡然自乐的“精神家园”的叙述。

:我和你讲一位中国艺术家的作品吧,他也是用金属支架外面包裹宣纸做的“纸山”,大大小小,有高有低,挂在空间中,人还可以在周围和中间走来走去,有一种走走看看,一步一景的感觉,不同的角度产生出不同的期待,幻化出无限来,有的时候人还会不小心碰一下, 整个山会微微地晃动起来, 更有一种似真似幻的别样境界。你的山也是挂着的,而是倒过来放的,看去不是你在转山,而是山在转,你的主动性怎么出来?

: 宣纸和纸纤维对于“东方性”质感的发掘是有很大可能性的。东西方对于艺术品观赏方式是有差异的,西方艺术品是公开展示性的,这个质感体量感,加之大尺寸,视觉冲击力强。古典的中国艺术品的欣赏是细细品味的,私密含蓄,你不能全观其貌,像手卷,你只能一小段一小段去拉开收起,慢慢品读。我的作品想强调光“写”水墨的笔墨效果和三维的蜿蜒宛转的“手卷”图式。“画眼”是包在里面的,在里面“转山”,你在外面是看不到的,要围着倒置体寻到镜框,去“内窥”,里面也做了层次,移步换景,“山”在里面转,人在外面转,慢慢走,慢慢看。

:是不是和你这个“慢慢走”展览有关,为什么要慢呢?

:对,展览的名称是华府艺术总监吴放老师定的,我和吴老师相识五年多了,几乎每周都碰头一起或画画,或畅谈,我们都亲切地叫她“吴姐”,多年的接触中,她十分了解我一路走来的心路历程,一直在旁多有指引加许。“慢慢走”是吴老师对我艺术历程概括吧,也是对我未来的期许吧。

Ji: How did you become an artist? Why?

He: I used to learn martial art when I was a child and that makes me become a very naughty boy. My parents always worry about me. When I go to painting class, my works always reflect an ‘impact’ feeling. Besides, Madam He, my painting teacher at primary school, is my neighbor and she usually has compliment words to my parents. So they went me to a painting hobby class. From then on I found I was attracted by painting. I start to read books related with painting technique, train painting or visit famous teachers. I would say that it is ‘Fate’ bring me on the road access to an artist.

Ji: Is there any relation between your device ‘Light of Utopia’ with ‘worshipping mountain’ ink painting series? Why would you make this device?

He: I am not a conformist. My work has always seeking a ’Chinese temperament’. Through this exhibition, I would like to take this opportunity to create a three-dimensional device to extend the possibility the performance of ink. Or I can say ‘Light of Utopia’ is the expansion of ‘worshipping mountain’ series. I add light as an element; using a variety of different paper fibers. I create a staggered effect through the transmission of light. This is the contemporary explanation of ‘tradition’ in landscape painting spirit. I would consider word ‘tradition’ not a noun but a verb means the endless stream of vitality. Combined with the classical scroll drawing extended by the black curtain, it reflects a new describe of the ‘spiritual home’ which is away from the hubbub, contented and happy.

Ji: There is another Chinese artist create his work a ‘paper mountain’. He also use the metal stents wrapped with rice paper to build this mountain. These parts have different size and height. He hangs them in the air that people can walk through them. People walk and see. They can have lots of expectations from their different angels and turn this work to infinity. Sometimes people may touch it accidentally and the whole mountain will shake up slightly. It makes people have a kind of magic realm. Your mountain is also hanged in the air, but you put it upside down. It seems that not you are rotating the mountain but the mountain rotating itself. How did you make that?

He: Rice paper and paper fibers have great possibility to the excavation of ‘oriental’ texture. There is a difference for east and west art viewing way. Western art works usually display in public, it has thick texture, and combined with the large size the western art work always has a strong visual impact. The classical Chinese art needs a careful look. You cannot watch its whole appearance. Just like hand scroll, you can only pull a short part and read it slowly. My work would like to emphasize the effect of using light to ‘write’ ink work and the meandering three-dimensional ‘hand scroll’ style. The ‘center of the painting’ is packaged inside. You can’t see the rotating mountain outside. You need to find the frame around the upside down mountain and try to look ‘inside’. Every time you walk a step, you can find the mountain is rotating inside and you are following it, walk slowly and enjoy it slowly.

Ji: Does it connect with the article ? Why slowly?

He: Yes. The name of this exhibition was decided by Madam Wu, the Art Director of Huafu Art Space. We get to know each other more than five years, nearly every week to meet together painting or talking. The contact for many years, she was understood my experience and my effort. She helped me and guided me when I was creating my work. ‘Take it easy’ summarized my art experience, and the expectation on my future.
