1.Prepare for the tests 准备：

When the examiner asks if you would like to try the piano at the start of the exam, if you would like

to, have something ready, like a scale, the start of a piece, or a few chords, and perhaps try the pedals if you are using them. If you do not want to try the piano, just say something like " no thank you I am ready to start"当考官问你是否想先试一下琴，你想试试的话，就弹一些音阶或曲目片段。如果你要用踏板的话也可以试一下。如果你不想试琴，就说“不，谢谢。我已经准备好了”。

2.In the sight-reading tests 视奏：

When you are given the sight reading to study and practise for 30 seconds before the test, remember that you can play out loud on your instrument in that period. Note that at higher grades especially there will probably not be time to play through the whole piece.在视奏环节，考官会给你视奏材料，以及30秒时间准备，可以在乐器上弹出声来。高级别考生请注意你可能没有足够的准备时间把整首曲子完整摸一遍。

For candidates using English, If you wish the examiner to repeat an instruction, saying "please repeat" is preferable to "what?". 3.In the aural tests 听力：

Clapping. From grades 1 to 3, you clap the steady beat, while the examiner plays. From grade 4 to 7, you clap not the beat, but the RHYTHM of the notes, AFTER the examiner has played it twice.拍节奏。1-3级的考生，在考官弹曲子的时候，你要拍的是固定节拍。4-7级，你要拍的不是节拍，是曲子的节奏RHYTHM，并且在考官弹完两遍之后再拍。

Singing: for the sung answers, make sure that you sing in a sensible octave. Many singers, try to sing an octave too low and are physically unable to sing notes that go off the bottom of their range. If you are not a confident singer, have a couple of lessons from a singing teacher. The question on musical character. The examiner is asking “what give the music its character”, not “what the character actually is”. So saying "it is happy" would not be a good answer. Saying " it is happy because it is in a major key and fast" would be a good answer.关于音乐特征的问题。考官问的是“旋律的音乐特征从哪里体现”，而不是“音乐的特征是什么”。所以回答“这是欢乐的音乐”并不是一个正确的答案。应该回答“音乐听上去很欢乐是因为这是大调旋律并且速度很快”。

4.In the scale tests 音阶：

In the scales, if you are asked to play a scale "hands together" you should not play the separate hands as well. Remember to release the final note of a scale.音阶，如果考官要求你“双手”一起弹音阶，你就不能分手弹。请记得音阶的最后一个音弹完手要放开琴键。

Finally, remember that the examiner is there to help you as much as possible within the exam framework. He or she is not there to set traps or catch you out! We want the exam to go well.
