Pride and Prejudice

D: What reason?

E: Do you think anything might tempt me to accept the man who has ruined the happiness of a most beloved sister? Do you deny that you separated a young couple who loved each other, exposing your friend to censure for caprice and my sister to derision for disappointed hopes, involving them both in acute misery?

D: I do not deny it.

E: What was?

D:It would make perfectly clear an advantageous marriage.

E: Did my sister give you that impression?

D: No! No! There was however, your family…

E: Our want of connection?

D: No, it was more than that.

E: How, Sir?

D: The lack of propriety shown by your mother, younger sister and your father. Forgive me, you and your sister I must exclude from this.

E:And what about Mr. Wickham?

D: Mr. Wickham?

E: What excuse can you give for your behavior?

E: You take an eager interest to him.

D: He told me about his misfortunes.
E: Oh, yeah. He has misfortune. They have been very great.

E: You ruined his chances. And you treat him with sarcasm.

D: So this is your opinion about me? Thanks for your explaining fully. Perhaps these offences might have been overlooked had not your pride been hurt by my scruples about our relationship. Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances?

E: Are those the words of a gentleman? From the first moment your arrogance and conceit, your selfish distain for the feelings of others made me realize you were the last man in the world I could ever be previewed upon to marry.

D: Forgive me, madam, for taking up so much of your time.
