When we read in our mother tongue, we use "small tips" to help us read. For example, you might skim some particular passages in order to understand the gist. When it comes to reading in a foreign language, we simply start from the beginning and try to understand every single word. Inevitably, we quickly get frustrated with our lack of understanding.

其实我们在用母语看书的时候，都会不自觉地使用一些“小技巧”来帮助阅读。比如说，为了理解主旨，一些段落会自动跳过。可一旦碰到英文著作，我们就会不自觉地忘记，开始逐字逐句地看。不可避免的，我们很快就看不懂了。

The best way to enjoy reading is reading entire chapters from the beginning to the end. Consequently, going through the whole story is more important than understanding every word of it.

碰到生词怎么办呢

记住以下三点

1. ‍Go back and read the problem sentence many times over, then link it with

the context. At last, try to guess what it means. This method takes

practice, but it is easier than you can imagine.

把这句话反复多看几遍，再联系上下文，试着猜一下这个词的意思。这招需要熟能生巧，但比你想的简单。

2. ‍‍Make a note of the word in a notebook, and you can look it up in a dictionary later. Just remember that don’t stop reading. ‍‍
